The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway is the longest steam railway operating in England. Starting your journey in Pickering you will pass through some the most picturesque countryside the U.K. has to offer (The North York Moors National Park) with miles of heather, forests and dales. The seasons and weather ensure that passengers are treated to a constantly changing scenery of moorland and rural views. Each station along the line is lovingly maintained in-keeping with the steam era.

Flaminglo Land is the most popular tourist attraction in the area providing a great day out for all the family. Visitors pay an entrance fee which covers the cost of all rides and live shows. There are picnic areas and a good selection of restaurants, cafes, bars and take-away food.

The Beck Isle Museum is the focal point of local history. Located in the centre of town alongside the 'Beck Isle' from which it takes its name. It might be compared to the Tardis. The outside disguises the fact that 'once inside' visitors are treated to a fantastic collection depicting local history. The collection of artifacts is not from any particular period - instead the museum provides an insight in to the rural life of Ryedale beginning as far back as the ice age.

Stately Homes. Within a short drive or by public transport there are some of the most famous stately homes in the U.K. which are open to visitors. They include the elegant and impressive Castle Howard (home of the Howard family) and Duncombe Park which is the residence of Lord and Lady Feversham.

The Beautiful Yorkshire Coast provides a range of seaside resorts and fishing villages. A drive from Scarborough to Whitby will take you along a picturesque coastline with the cliff top views at Flamborough, (also the home of the oldest lighthouse in England) to the wide open sandy beaches of Filey. Whitby - a Yorkshire fishing town is popular with visitors, also has many art galleries and visitor attractions.

You could spend a lifetime in Pickering and still not see everything the locality has to offer. Needless to say - we highly recommend a stay with us, whether your up for an adventure, or just want to get away from it all.
